Scout Skills Test I

Day 43 18 July 02 Thursday

This morning we ran for PT. Since I now messed up both my knees a few days ago, it wasn't easy. Distance wise I'd say we went 4 miles. We did however "pause briefly" at a big hill and did sprints up and down. Some guys took to walking so we had to keep doing more. We probably went up and down like 25 times.

Today was the Scout Skills Test I (SSTI). About a week ago, our D.S. made us a deal, if you and your battle buddy got 1st time go's on every task, 12 in all, you would get to make a phone call. Well, as the day progressed, myself and battle buddy, Todd Rose, realized that we had done everything right and encouraged each other on. Now on the very last task, zeroing and setting sights on M16, there was a tense moment. Let me back up first. Yesterday during practice, I did everything right but I turned the rear sight apeature the wrong way. Well, today I took special note of that so not to get it wrong. It was the same D.S. and he remembered me. He knew that this was my last task and on the verge of getting a 20 min phone call so on the rear sight, he once again said I did it wrong. Well, my cocky I-Know-I-Got-It-Smile was wiped away. My battle buddy looked at me in disbelief because he and I just went over it all. Then the D.S. told me that we wanted to see my smirk off my face. So I get a 20 min phone call! I will call home and Flaherty's. Also, it was released to us that those of us who got all 1st time go's get to go to a country concert this Saturday for $5. I am so there! Things are really starting to pick up. It is the end of week 2 of white phase. The days are dwindling.
