Day 55 31 July 02 Wednesday
Today was a great day to be hungry. I had K.P. I had to get up at 0415 and worked all day but in between meal rushes, I had the chance to sit down and eat 4 or 5 bowls of cereal. I actually had time to sit and eat food like a normal human being and carry on a conversation during the meal. The work after things like dishes were clean were boring but it was worth the food. Well, tomorrow night I will be out on an orienteering course and it is done after dark like most things are for 19D. So I will not be back til 0030 and so unable to make an entry.

Mom's Surgery
Day 54 30 July 02 Tuesday
PT was awesome this morning. Got the full sit-up & push-up improvement, boy do I feel good! We did have D&C for 3 hours which wasn't too bad. This afternoon we had a class on land navigation, PLGGR (aka GPS) and that is about all. So I set my watch to go off at 1400 (1300 at home) because that was when my mother was suppose to go in for surgery. It did and I got a quick prayer off. It was great timing because we had just walked outside from our class when it went off. I had a partly cloudy sky to look up at as I prayed for her. I hope all went well and that this surgery will work for her. I got 3 letters today. One from my mom telling me about her appointment before her surgery. Also I got a thank you card from Rachel, she said that she liked the CD and Superman visor & cards. Not much else happened. We had a bunch of things pre-inspected for the inspection on Friday. Got to go.

Prep-Week
Day 53 29 July 02 Monday
This morning for PT we ran 4 miles in cadence. It was too slow though. We had 4 classes on land navigation and in the afternoon, we had a dry run of what to expect outside on an orienteering type course that we will be doing Wednesday night. Late Wednesday, 2300. After shinning boots, we had to clean our M16 for 3 hours. Boring. All this week is prep-work for the inspection on Friday. There is a lot to do before then too. Hopefully we can get it done. I got mail from Zsazsa and Gaba. It was good to hear from them. I got to go, my mother is having surgery on her eye and I need to pray for her before I fall asleep.

Crossland Strikes Again!
Day 53 28 July 02 Sunday
This day flew by! I got up for chow, went to church, put a special coat of dye on our boots to prepare for the Company Commander's inspection on Friday. We spent all day cleaning our pro-mask, LBE and Kevlar. Tonight during fire guard I am going to iron my BDUs. Oh, remmeber that kid Crossland who yesterday was AWOL for chow because he was asleep? Well guess what? While we were cleaning our M16 in our bay, he slipped away to the latrine and fell asleep on the john! Of all the places he fell asleep there. Now he may be moved to a different platoon. We'll see. Today was a day of cleaning and a class on land navigation which we will be doing this next week. We will be moving around by map and compass in the woods by battle buddy team at night. Once we find our destination, we get to sleep so the faster we learn and complete our task we can to go bed.

I Want My Bottle!
Day 52 27 July 02 Saturday
Once again I missed a day because I didn't get back to the barracks til 2345 and in bed by 0030. Anyway, yesteday we practiced suppressive fire, movement in woods, M240B, claymore mine placement and the M203. Oh, and the AT-4 rocket launcher. We got back so late because we did night suppressive fire with tracers and flares (parachute). It is/was getting a little repiticious and boring but its over so its all good. Today we went back to yet another range but this time fired the AT-4 (anti-tank rocket launcher), it the M203 grenade launcher. It was pretty cool but only for the first half of the day and then downhill from there. Tonight was very interesting to say the least. I came back from dinner chow and went into my bay as I always do. One of my battle buddies, Salsgiver, walked in and we started talking. he then looked over to the far left corner of our room and said, "Who is that?" and we both moved over there. It turns out that it was Crossland, another battle buddy who had slept through chow by wedging himself between the wall lockers. Did he ever get up uncomfortably. I got the P.G. (platoon guide) and asked that he be watched at all time or LOS (line of sight). We (my bay) got permission to have him do al the crap details. Also, as soon as the P.G. found out what had happened, he had Crossland walk from bay to bay with a blanket, sucking his thumb saying "waaa! Waaaa! waaa! I want my bottle! I want my mommy!" You see stuff like this has happened before with this guy and everyone is sick of doing extra PT because he is screwing up. It has been 6 weeks, he is 19 and is irresponsible. Now we have given him every chance we could but he never capitalized and now that everything is being stepped up a bit, he is not going to slack off.

Bivoak
Day 50 25 July 02 Thursday
As you can tell, I skipped a day, reason being I was out on a bivoak. That is, out in the woods for a night. But let us begin where the day began. We had our 10k march at 0600 which took us to the range we would be shooting the M240B machine gun. The march there wasn't bad except a few gigantic hills and a quick pace got everyone's BDUs soaked. For lunch we got MREs, not very filling but good. We got to use 200 rounds of 7.62mm for the M240B including tracers. It was hot and on top of that, I tore up my right hand on the charging handle. This gun can fire 920 rounds a minute! I couldnt' see when I was shooting because once again, sweat poured all over my glasses. I was, however, able to see well enough to nail, pulverize, destroy, mutilate a truck at 500m! It was awesome to see my shot take it out. The down side, this is how I spent Rachel's bday. I wish I could have been there when (and if) her mother gave her her gift. It would have been great! All that duck tape....
Oh, a fire started at the range from a tracer. There has been so little rain that some grass ignited. We did nothing but let it burn. We marched to another range where we fired on targets while practicing bounding movements to stumps, walls, high/low crawl and finally throwing a grenade. It was monotonous and could have done without it. Oh well, another day gone.

Guillotine Choke Hold
Day 48 23 July 02 Tuesday
What a great view to have this morning. Of course we had PT in the dark as usual but after that for chow formation, the sun made a brilliant picture as it got out of bed. The clouds recieved a light red, pinkish tint. It reminded me of a picture I took when I was in Hawaii. I wish I could have sat and enjoy it more. I wish sunrises and sunsets would last longer. Hey, I bet Rachel (though she is not up yet because its 0730 here) is/will be giddy/excited that he b-day is tomorrow. Now that she got her license (finally!). I wonder where/what she'll be doing for it.
We had hand to hand combat training today and man was it great. We spent the morning leanring all sorts of grapling techniques. Most of the moves we learned were for fighting on the ground. Strangle holds, counter-moves and other stuff. In the afternoon we got to go against someone. I went against Craigs. We went at it for over 5 minutes when I finally, after fruitless attempts of the bent arm break, went to the guillotine choke-hold and he tap'ed out. I did however, obtain a bloody lower lip, a cut by my right eye and a scratch running from my forehead to my right eyeball.
Oh, last night for fire guard I had to watch a guy who tried to kill himself yesterday. I guess he was in 4th platoon and just couldn't take it. They took his boot laces and stuff like that. Which reminds me, at reception there was a kid who tied the end of a hall wax buffer machine cord to his neck and threw it out the window (3rd floor). He did survive, however, because the cord was too long the buffer hit the ground before it tightened around his neck. How sad is that? One, its at reception which is nothing to basic and two, he couldn't even kill himself when he tried. On a lighter note, tomorrow is the day we leave on our bivuak. We marched 10k to our site and from there we spent the next 3 days. There will be little sleep involved since the excercises we will be working on is night movements. So I will be spending Rachel's bday marching and firing the M240B. We will be firing the M204B til 0230 Thursday morning and still get up at 0530. We were issued 1/2 a tent and a sleeping bag (which I will not be using due to the heat). We will be out in the field til Saturday night. I think there will be a lot of mail waiting for us on Monday. It is suppose to rain almost every day we are out there so that is going to bite. That's weird, I just checked my calendar and count down to Family Day sheet (I made both of these) and tomorrow, the 24th of July, there is also 24 days left til Family Day. What are the chances of that? And it being Rachel's bday. Weird. Happy Birthday Rachel. Have a great day. I wish I could have been there with you. Hope you enjoy your gifts.

New Toys
Day 47 22 July 02 Monday
Monday, Monday. I have that song stuck in my head. Today was cool. We had push-up improvement and I have already improved a lot. But today was cool because we worked with the 240B (crew serve weapon) and M203 grenade launcher. We learned about it, took them apart and when we go to the FTX (field training exercise) on Wednesday-Friday, we get to shoot them. Not much happened. It is prep for our FTX so it isn't fun yet.

AWOL Soldier
Day 46 21 July 02 Sunday
Today was a different Sunday in comparison to all others. We did have D&C like usual and got smoked during it. The weird part of the day was that we had PT tonight. I twas hot and humid and we had sit-up improvement. We were out there for over 2 hours. When we finished and began to stretch out, I had sweat literally pouring out of my t-shirt. I was bent over and where my shirt met my dog tabs was drops of sweat dripping off. Exciting. One more thing, Glass almost went AWOL (Absent Without Leave). He was chosen as the poorest hygiene canidate (one is elected for numorous things) and he left. We found himi 30 min later in the latrine stall.

Food! Food! Food!
Day 45 20 July 02 Saturday
What an awesome day! First was qualifications with grenades. There was this course wew ent on which traveled through the woods. There were 7 stations each wit ha different position to throw from and different senarios. I knocked out 6 of 6 and the 7th station was a knowledge test on the different types of grenades. I got all go's so I qualified expert! I am so excited! Oh, this afternoon, the D.S. had pizza (as they do frequently) and there was one left. So they began asking questions about different things related to the Army. Well, people got some answers right and were given 5 seconds to run into the room with the pizza and get it. None made it. That is, none til Rose. He got the answer right about how many trucks are on post (one, at the top of the flag pole), what was in it and used for (a match, razor & bullet. Razor to cut the flag up, match to burn flag, bullet to take your life). There is a gun buried under the flag pole. You only use these when the base is overrun and you are the last man standing.
Moving along. Tonight I got to go to the concert. I got to go because I got a perfect score on the SST I. Granted it was a bunch of no-namers, it was fun. There was candy, chips, ice cream, pizza, hot dogs and a hot chick! She was working the pizza stand. She also got up with another girl and did some line dance on stage to the music. Gorgeous girl I kid you not. It was weird though, this concert was outdoors and everyone there was in BDUs. Weird to see Army personnel jumpin to music. But it was fun and everyone had a great time.

Few Weeks Left
Day 44 19 July 02 Friday
Today was a quick day. We took a bus to a factory and got issued a whole bunch of stuff, like class "A's"! I finally got them! They are sharp. I got to call home today. I talked to Kyle, Ashley Wondra, Mom and Dad. I got my need to buy list to them. I can't wait to see them and that food! They are driving here so that means lots of gas stations! Also I may get the opportunity to visit Yvonne in St. Louis now too! That would be really cool So yeah, if you can't tell, things are going well. There are some rough spots but the engine is warming up to all 8 cylinders. We're moving fast and it only gets faster. One more week of white phase. Sunday I have choir again and Saturday we throw and qualify for grenades. 2 weeks from tomorrow is Operation Fellowship. 8 hours of free time sponsered by a local church. It's a BBQ with games, entertainment & food. I can't wait. Hang on, did I mention there was food! So yeah, lots to come and lots accomplished. A few more weeks.

Scout Skills Test I
Day 43 18 July 02 Thursday
This morning we ran for PT. Since I now messed up both my knees a few days ago, it wasn't easy. Distance wise I'd say we went 4 miles. We did however "pause briefly" at a big hill and did sprints up and down. Some guys took to walking so we had to keep doing more. We probably went up and down like 25 times.
Today was the Scout Skills Test I (SSTI). About a week ago, our D.S. made us a deal, if you and your battle buddy got 1st time go's on every task, 12 in all, you would get to make a phone call. Well, as the day progressed, myself and battle buddy, Todd Rose, realized that we had done everything right and encouraged each other on. Now on the very last task, zeroing and setting sights on M16, there was a tense moment. Let me back up first. Yesterday during practice, I did everything right but I turned the rear sight apeature the wrong way. Well, today I took special note of that so not to get it wrong. It was the same D.S. and he remembered me. He knew that this was my last task and on the verge of getting a 20 min phone call so on the rear sight, he once again said I did it wrong. Well, my cocky I-Know-I-Got-It-Smile was wiped away. My battle buddy looked at me in disbelief because he and I just went over it all. Then the D.S. told me that we wanted to see my smirk off my face. So I get a 20 min phone call! I will call home and Flaherty's. Also, it was released to us that those of us who got all 1st time go's get to go to a country concert this Saturday for $5. I am so there! Things are really starting to pick up. It is the end of week 2 of white phase. The days are dwindling.

Standing Only Training
Day 42 17 July 02 Wednesday
We did sit-up improvment. It hurt. Since our big test is tomorrow, today was a hands on review. It was a long stand only day. I think I'll do fine tomorrow. If me and my battle buddy Rose get 1st time go's, we get 20 min phone calls. I have confidence. Other than that, not much happened.

Burnt Roof
Day 41 16 July 02 Tuesday
Today's PT was tough. We had push-up improvement and we did around a total of 250 in 30 min. At the end, I was at muscle failure. I am out of shape. We have another big test on Thursday so we got most of today to study. It was a lot of hands on stuff. Oh, at lunch today I burned the roof of my mouth really really bad on, get this, corn.
So they changed the 9 second rule on gas mask doning to 7.5 sec! It was hard at first but I got it down now. Today was a slow day. We did get 4 new guys from another platoon. They are screw offs so I am going to say this now, we will be smoked a lot because of them. Well, I got to go so I'll see you later.

They are screw offs so I am going to say this now, we will be smoked a lot because of them. Well, I got to go so I'll see you later.

Pro-Mask PT
Day 40 15 July 02 Monday
I should have known. It's Monday. Today was a BAD day. It all started at PT. We ran 3 miles in just under 24 minutes. It was a pretty fast face up quite a few hills. We actually stopped at one point just to run up and down a steep hill so that took about 6 minutes. After breakfast we had ready line (line up in the halls, backs against the wall) and praticed pro-mask doning again. A majority of us did not pass in 9 seconds so we had to do PT in our pro-mask. We did knee-benders, push-ups, ski-jumpers, flutter kicks and the hated mountain climbers. We did have a cool class on basic militart communications. It was a long day and I'm glad it's over. I did get 3 pieces of mail from my family and one cool paper one from Rachel. So those made the end of my day better.

9 Seconds or Die
Day 39 14 July 02 Saturday
Once again today started off very relaxed. Not much happened. We did have D&C and some guys forgot some moves and we got smoked for it. That took all afternoon and after chow we shined boots as usual and then finally got to clean our M16s. They have been sitting in storage for over a week now since BRM quals. Mine wasn't too dirty because I shot the minimum aount of shots I could have. So I was lucky compared to some guys who shot a lot because they were "no go's". We did practice pro-mask doning. The requirement is to have it cleared and sealed in 9 seconds. I got it and most of my platoon has it too. Oh, the sunrise this morning was awesome. The moon set leaving a glow on one horizon while the sun came up on the other horizon giving a different purple, red glow. It was really cool. By the way, I have been 'hired' as the R&U (repair and utility) guy. I get to make sure all equipment in every bay in my entire barracks is running right. I got it because it came out that my father is/was an electrician and I knew some stuff. Its ok work. It does cut into personal time but it will pay off. Need sleep as usual so goodnight.

Gas Gas Gas!!!
Day 38 13 July 02 Saturday
Rain. P.T. was canceled because of the rain. We changed into our BDUs and put on our wet weather gear but my BDU still got soaked. Today was the day most people dread, the gas chamber. It was a test of all our pro-masks (protective/gas mask) sealed properly. We were ushered into a small room, walked in a circile around a propain tank which had a burner on top. After circling, the sergeant in charge dumped a capsule of CS or tear gas in civilian terms. We were then told to remove our masks and keep our eyes open and break in for 9 seconds. The gas gave an overal tingle to the skin while it burned the eyes and lungs. Everyone immediately began coughing and weezing. It hurt bad. When those 9 seconds were up, we were lead outside where we were relieved of our pain by the air. How I will never take air for granted! Thinking: How aweful it must have been to have died from any type of gas. Painful and disfiguring. WWI, WWII etc, I can not even grasp what some of those men sufffered through. I do grasp, however, how greatful every person in these United States of America should be for those men who died for us to live free. Well, today was a relaxing day. We had an inspection of the barracks. For it being the first inspection it went well. Apparently in week 8 the Colonel inspects. Oh, you know what happens next week? I get my class "A" uniform! I can't wait! But I got to go now, have to finish other things. Later.

Sore Knees
Day 37 12 July 02 Friday
Today started off with a little hurt for P.T. We had push-up improvement. We did quite a few different ways and all my upper chest and arms tingle. It's a good tingle though. I know that even thought it hurts currently, in the end when I get home, it will be worth it. We did have 5 more classes today, all on first aid. We had to march with everything on 4 times. It is about 2k one way. That may not see that far but it is under a hot sun with a 40lb ruck on your back. We again ran tonight for evening P.T. We ran for a little over an hour but only around 4 miles completed. We didn't run very far for 2 reasons: 1) the pace was constantly changed by the D.S going very slow (practically a walk, which is bad for the knees) and then sprinted 3 blocks. It went on and on like that. Then there's reason #2: people could not keep up or in formation so we had to keep turning around. But it is all for the greater good, being in shape. Well, once again its time to wrap up. Caio.

Jab Thrust Perry Right!
Day 36 11 July 02 Thursday
Today didn't start off so good. Morning formation. Wow. People were still getting out there at 0530. Everyone got smoked for 10 min. Now 10 min may not seem like a long time but try doing push-ups the whole time. The thing that I did not understand is what takes them so long. I mean, my bay had fire guard from 0400-0500 which means that I must remain in that uniform (P.T. clothes, LBE, kevlar & promask) until 0500. Only then can I put on my BDU uniform, shave, brush my teeth, get my ruck sack, head downstairs and outside, ground my ruck sack, run 2 blocks to the mail box, drop my mail and run back all in under 20 min. If I can do all that, why can't people do all that same stuff when they get up at 0430? They have 45 min and are still late.
Well, today we had qualifications with a bayonett. We went through a course consisting of bodies made of tires, barbed wire, low and high walls. It was tiring especially at the very end as the last 3 or 4 bodies were set up on a steep hill. It took ever last ounce of strength to get up. I did qualify, so I did not have to do the course again like some guys had to do. That must have been tiring! We had 3 classes today on first aide; hymlick, restoring breathing etc. It was really easy with all the background I have with CPR and first aide in general. Too easy. Things are getting better. We didn't get P.T.'ed tonight simply because we sounded off really well today. The weeks are flying by. It is Friday tomorrow and that means its almost the end of week four. I've been gone from home for over a month and it isn't all that bad. Just an extended vacation away from my family. Now don't get me wrong, I love my family and would take a bullet for any of them but it is still nice to get away. We get to go to bed early tonight so I want to take advantage of it now. Oh, one more thing, it's the 10 month anniversary of 9/11. I can't believe it has been almost a year since that day. I still remember finding out about it and where I was; Mr. Kugel's class, 2nd hour, Tuesday (mass day) sitting in the front seat on the right side, second one in. Rachel was on my right and we were talking to Mr. Kugel. Over the PA Mr. Maza announced it and we said a decade of the Rosary. Well, I really should get going. Peace.

Gladiators
Day 35 10 July 02 Wednesday
Man did that rain come down last night! Oh and we did some cool P.T. last night too. We were in the halls against the walls facing in. It went Soldier, space, Soldier, space etc and on the other side it went space, Soldier, space so there was a gap in front of each Soldier. Now comes the fun part. We were given 17 5gal water jugs that were filled. We took these one at a time up to our chests and passed it on to the next guy. We went up and down the hall 9 times back and forth. They were 'wounded Soldiers'. It took about 1/2 an hour and mad did it do a job on arms. After we finished, we had to do raised/incline push-ups. But on to today. Of course breakfast was good but I was excited about bayonett training today. All day we trained on moves to do with a bayonett when you are out of rounds or at a close distance with the enemy. Then we got to do a gladiator type deal. Everyone was equiped with a football helmet, catcher's chest protector, hockey gloves and a padded stick. We got to a sawdust pit and duked it out. It was 2nd platoon vs 1st platoon. They won 7 bouts while my platoon won 23! It was great! Tonight we had P.T. again and we FINALLY ran! We had to go at the pace of the slowest guy but it was still great. After 2.5 miles in about 20 minutes (I know that's very slow but lets continue) we then had a 'cool down' period. We ran around a huge parking lot (about the size of a football field) 7 times which is around 2 more miles. So I finally got to run and I feel great. We did have to stop once for about 10 min because some guys were not running in formation and did some roadside P.T. We did a whole lot of push ups and it felt good when we finished. Well, once again this concludes our time learning about basic training. Tune in next time. Goodnight (I'm in a good mood because things are starting to be fun).

Mail Call!
Day 34 09 June 02 Tuesday
Today was a great day. Aside from some boring classes, we got to play around with our pro-masks. But the best was when we got back. We finally had mail call after 5 days! I got 15 pieces of mail! I am so happy! 4 were from Rachel & company. Our P.T. tonight was moving 17 3gal jugs down a hall 10 times. It was awesome! It worked my muscles well. But I have 15 lettersto read so I have to go.

Night Infiltration
Day 33 08 July 02 Monday
So it is really 0100 on Tuesday because we just got back from night infiltration. The day started with me plowing into a gun full speed. See, we were running to chow formation when this guy about 4 inches in front of me turned around without me seeing and I took him out. He fell backwards and I stood there trying to catch him. I did catch his knee to my quadricept but its nothing. Then we went to Heard Park where we were introduced to high crawl, low crawl and rush. We went through 3 courses which tore up our arms and knees really and I mean really bad. Already my elbows are infected because of all the dirt that got down my sleeves. It was probably the logest day yet. We got there around 0700 and left around 1700 only to get bused to our final destination, night infiltration. It was the coolest. We had to high/low crawl over downed trees, under barbed wire and live ammo with tracers and flares going overhead. It was such a rush to have live rounds and flares being launched at us. Flares, haha, that reminds me of someone. So anyways we had to crawl and roll over 50m through all that stuff. It really hurt but it was so much fun. Well its 0200 and wake up is 0530 so I got to go.

Nodding Off In a Pew
Day 32 07 July 02 Sunday
Well again this morning we were rushing at breakfast. Mass went well, I stayed awake for most of it. It is so hard to stay awake during anything anymore unless I am moving around constantly. I don't have any mail since Wednesday because Thursday was Fourth of July, Friday we were out late, Saturday & Sunday there is no mail, tomorrow we are in the field til midnight so I will not be getting mail til the middle of the week. I hope to get a lot too. We did have D.S. counseling tonight. We got to talk about what is expected of us in white phase, standards raised, more P.T. I have been unable to get to the PX so I still have my camera (contraband). Nothing too big happened today. It's the calm before the storm. This next week will be more intese P.T. and stricter rules. I need sleep.

No Yogurt For Me
Day 31 06 July 02 Saturday
Today started off a little shaky. Our platoon got smoked because one person scratched his nose. Plus breakfast was cut short for no reason. I was under the impression that meals would be longer but I had just cracked open my yogurt when we were told to go. We did have a good time at the confidence course. There was a lot of team building during it. Me and this other guy, Sawyer, helped our team up 6 vertical walls by sitting on top and pulling them up. We spent about 2.5 hours on D&C with M16s. That was pretty cool. This up coming week is jam packed. We have night infiltration, D&C, bayonett training and much more. Monday we will not be back to our barracks til 0001 and still have to get up for formation at 0530. This next week is going to be difficult. I am going to try and send my box tomorrow if we go to the PX.

Fireworks
Day 30 05 July 02 Friday
Hey. It has been one month since I left. Today was a long day. We had the 8k road march in the morning along with a ceremony for entering white phase. With nothing to do but clean all day before we went shooting, the day dragged. We got to practice burst rounds, shooting with our NBC masks on and did night fire. We used tracers for our late Fourth of July show. We got back around 2300 and must get up at 0500. Tomorrow will be another long day.

Oooh Say Can You See?
Day 29 04 July 02 Thursday
Today is Independence Day. I spent the 226th anniversary of our country's birth out in the hot sun, qualifying on my M16 but lets back up a bit. For breakfast, I had some LUCKY Charms (oh, the moon was really bright this morning). I did qualify. I hit 30 of 40. I should have figured I would get that. I mean, my last 2 practice rounds I got 29 & 31 so 29+31=60/2=30. Weird. Anyways I am very excited about passing today. The only thing that would make me feel better than this would be home. Family and friends. I did get to utilize the phone today. I got 15 minutes because I got sharpshooter. I called home and boy did it sound good to hear your voices. I got to go, got a busy day ahead of me. They (D.S.) say it will be all out this week. YEAH! Finally some hardcore physical training. Goodnight and thank you God for guiding my bullets.

Sharpshooter or Expert?
Day 28 03 July 02 Wednesday
Again we went to the range for one final practice round. I shot 29 of 40. Not bad but yesterday I hit 31 of 40 so hopefully there isn't a trend of any kind starting. Tomorrow is the one that counts. I shoot first at the foxhole so hopefully all the mist will be gone. We just had a motivational talk/prayer in a bay. We talked about the test tomorrow and to just relax. I hope I get expert but sharpshooter will do. I do not want marksman. I do want to qualify so however I go about that I'll be happy. Those that qualify, white phase begins and those that don't get recycled. I do not want that. Today there really isn't much to say. Not much happened. No mail. But I'll finish letters to my parents and Rachel.

Losing Weight
Day 27 01 July 02 Monday
Today was a kind of medium day. We went to another range which consisted of moving targets where more than one goes up at a time. It was the best range we have been to yet. I hit 36 of 44 multi-targets. If I keep my composure I'll shoot expert on Thursday. I think my whole platoon should go to sick call. Everyone is caughing and wheezing. It got really hot today. So hot in fact that the D.S. couldn't smoke us at all. Mail call tonight was awesome. I got something that I was looking forward to getting. I had been waiting and waiting for this one piece of mail I got tonight. Do you want to know what I am talking about? I got my pin# for my new check card with armed forces bank. Yeah, talk about getting some entertaining mail. I weighed myself last Thursday and I have lost 8lbs since I got here. Not too shabby though I could afford to shed a few more which I know I'll probably lose at least 10 more. I camme in officially according to the Army at 177lb. Anyway, we just got smoked (it's 2230) because fire guard didn't get our head count in on time eto the CQ (Commander of the Quarters) and he came and wasted us for about 20 minutes. Well I got to read from the bible and prayer book so I'll write later. Caio.
