Darn Grapes

Today we woke up to messages all over our facebook walls from people who were concerned about an earthquake that happened outside of Rome. We are ok, to be perfectly honest we had heard nothing about it until we saw all our messages…so thank you all for being concerned about us. The quake was actually about 60 miles north of Rome and we had already made it to Venice, a little over 350 miles north of the quake. The news of the quake was probably the biggest thing that happened to us all day. We decided to unwind, take the entire day off and chill in the hotel. We did venture out once to the grocery store to pick up some food for a picknick. Spent some time in there trying to figure out what the different foods were…mostly concerned with the selection of meats since we don’t have any way to cook it…when we got to the check out line, we found out that all produce is to be weighed by the customer on this scale that has a printer that gives a sticker you put on the bag to show the cashier how much you owe. Well, we didn’t know this so I had to run back to the scale which is where I got lost. There were instructions but of course they were in italian…so I was having a tough time which was prett apparent to a little 10 year old girl who came to my rescue. I still have no idea how she managed to get it to print my ticket but she did it with a smile and handed me the sticker…seriously Italians are awesome!
